It’s taken me forever to actually photograph and swatch this palette, which was a gift from my mom (thanks, mom!) for my 22nd birthday this year. Those of you who are keeping track will realize that’s more than 8 months ago. Whoops? Nevertheless, it was a great gift and a fabulous surprise given we were currently on the high seas somewhere in between California and Hawaii at the time. Tarte is a company I tend to just love. I love that most of their products are all-natural and not tested on animals (I haven’t checked every single product so I’m hedging that statement, but every one I’ve used has had great ingredients and been cruelty-free).

The Tarte The Starlet Limited-Edition Vanity — there’s a mouthful! — is my second limited-edition Tarte palette (my review of the Tarte True Blood Limited-Edition Palette can be found here). There’s always something so appealing and fun about limited editions, and this is no exception. The claim to fame here is that it serves a dual purpose: once the makeup is gone, the vanity can be used as an adorable jewelry box.

As mentioned in my review of the Tarte for True Blood Limited Edition Palette, Tarte’s mascara has been a very pleasant surprise for me. Typically, mascaras cause mild burning and itching in my eyes; I always thought this was “normal” prior to trying the sample-size Lights, Camera, Lashes! included in the palette. Since then, I took advantage of this great QVC deal and picked up two of the titular mascara (normally $19 each) since the reviews seemed to point to it being even better than Lights, Camera, Lashes!

Well, I think I have to agree! This mascara is really great. I get no irritation and this mascara offers a lot more length and definition than Lights, Camera, Lashes, in my opinion. Also, no flaking that I’ve noticed (though I didn’t notice any with my other Tarte mascara, either). I have my new Holy Grail mascara! Check out some of my makeup reviews after this for sample pics; if I’m wearing mascara, it’ll be this one!

Tarte Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara – $19.

Recently, despite my personal dislike of the series (granted, I mostly mean the Sookie Stackhouse books, I’ve never really seen the show), I was intrigued enough by excellent reviews to buy the Tarte True Blood Limited-Edition Palette. The cheek and lip stain are a bit vampy for me, but the eyeshadows looked really useful, especially since my collection of “good” makeup is still a bit limited in terms of color.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised, and I would recommend it to a friend. It’s a surprisingly wearable set of eyeshadows, despite having some dramatic colors, and I think it’s appropriately priced ($52) for what you get. Set includes 17 all-new, “supernatural” eyeshadows, deluxe sample-sized Lifted natural eye primer, deluxe sample-sized Lights, Camera, Lashes! natural mascara, and a full-sized EmphasEYES aqua-gel eyeliner.

After trying “Charmed” in my search for a cute summer pink lipstick that wouldn’t be too drying, I’ve become hooked! Not only does it match my ridiculously pink purse (which probably makes me preppier than I’d like to currently consider), but it’s more like a balm than a true lipstick or tint. While it’s not quite as long-lasting as I would expect given its label, it’s definitely a fun product. It’s also available in sparkly and matte versions, though having tried a few I think I prefer the original. It’s also “casual” enough that I don’t feel odd wearing it with no other makeup. I would definitely recommend, especially given the current sale over at Tarte!
