So, uh, I have a Twitter. If you enjoy seeing a pedantic grammar nerd trying to type in 140 characters without resorting to netspeak, you can follow me at @neuralwiles.

Here’s a video of an adorable owl!

This is a question I’ve been puzzling over since the service was launched in the US this past July. Where does Spotify fit amongst already existing music streaming services, and why has it become so popular?

I just saw Pokki, a new HTML5 “app experience” for Win7, linked on Ultralinx, and I had to try it out. So far, I’m really intrigued; I think with a larger set of supported apps it could really, really shine. I’m curious to see if the Gmail app can replace my need for Thunderbird, but the jury’s still out on that. It supports some other high-profile web services already (Facebook, Twitter, reddit, RSS feeds), so I would really recommend giving it a shot if you’re like me and addicted to that mobile app experience.

If I had a wishlist, I’d have to say I hope Evernote, WordPress, and Google Reader support are coming (I don’t want to have to manually import all of my feeds into Headlines, yuck!), but even as it is I think it’ll be a quality of life improvement. Really slick UI, and already some breadth in what it supports. Thumbs up!

What I wouldn’t give to get my hands on one of these, geez! Amazing specs, thin, innovative UI similar to the concept they unveiled earlier this year… I can’t wait until 3 years from now when I can hope to afford something like this!

My only concern is the placement of the touch panel — I understand they need to have a trackpad for those of us who game on the go without a proper mouse, but assuming I did use one (and I do, my Razer DeathAdder goes everywhere I go!), I’d prefer that panel on the left. I’m used to hotkeys on the left, and I don’t want to have to use my right hand, my mouse hand, in order to take advantage of the panel. A conundrum! I suppose if they made the trackpad usable enough, I could try using it, but… I love my mouse.

Welp, I suppose we’ll see if that sort of thing detracts from the performance once it’s out for testing and reviews start popping up. In the meantime, I’ll try not to drool all over my keyboard. My poor Asus gaming monstrosity doesn’t stand a chance! This is only seven pounds, and thinner than a Mac Book Pro. Geez.

Price is listed as $2800. Woooooooah. 😛

Well, download Tasker. Also this, though:

It just keeps scrolling. Forever. I now have 300 wallpapers. What do?

Since this is a totally boring post and I need to wait for the SDK to install on my desktop in order to do my shocking new Android UI exposé, here are two songs I’ve recently been obsessed with.

If you’re feeling chipper, check out “Daytime” by Matt and Kim (courtesy of my Hush Sound Pandora station). If you’re more pensive, give “Exile Vilify” by The National a try (from the Portal 2 Soundtrack). I, probably like many relatively-intelligent primates, can play the main theme for the latter! I am unnecessarily proud.

(I’m not going to get into how much Mumford and Sons I’ve been listening to lately, but suffice to say they’re pretty neat, too.)

You get hassled less at Fry’s if your hair is messy and you’re wearing a WoW tshirt and glasses (maybe not if you wear them exactly like that, though).

Otherwise, I get a lot of “But what color are you looking for (because the criterion women base hardware purchases on)?” and “Don’t you want the one with the Genius Button? It’s better (for reasons I could never supply to you if asked)!”

How many of the sales associates at Fry’s do you think know the only difference between the regular Android search key and the “Genius Button” is that the voice recognition is by Nuance instead of Google? I’m guessing not many. I can tell you for a fact, though, that all of them will assume you don’t.

It’s pretty funny to mess with them, though. Too bad when I look like a nerd none of them will come play with me. 😛

(Also, I got my new Bluetooth headset $15 off because I was able to make them price match to Amazon using my phone. Bazinga! I win the internets.)

My Life

Having finished Bossypants in just over a day, I’m finally ready to select Tiny Fey as my official celebrity idol. I don’t think she intentionally set out to be the role model for disenfranchised twenty-something girl gamer nerds, but neither do I think she would reject it, so there you go.

My personal fascination probably started with 30 Rock. I was originally in the unfortunate situation of never having fully understood that 30 Rock and 3rd Rock from the Sun were different shows. My mom would invite me to watch with her, and I would give her this vaguely puzzled look like “Why are you watching that, of all things?” I wasn’t too familiar with Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live, so I had no context to make me think that, yeah, the shows were probably different, but eventually she got me to sit down and try it out. It was at that point I found my other half. I finally realized what I wanted to be when I grew up. The answer was so simple. I wanted to be Liz Lemon.
